Microsoft Edge Is Getting Real Time AI Video Translation

AI is rapidly evolving, and we're seeing it become genuinely useful in our daily lives. One prime example is a new feature coming to Microsoft Edge that will translate videos in real-time as you watch, using AI. That's right - soon, you won't have to struggle to understand videos in languages you don't speak!

Let's discuss this innovative feature in more detail:

Real-Time AI Video Translation for Edge

At Build 2024, Microsoft's developer conference, they unveiled some exciting app updates, including real-time video translation for Edge. Using advanced AI tech, Edge will translate web videos into various languages on the fly while you watch.

We've all experienced this frustration - finding an interesting video, but no subtitles or dubs are available in a language we understand. This AI-powered feature solves that problem. Edge will listen to the audio and provide real-time translations, displayed as subtitles or in a separate window, just like human translators for live TV.

How the AI Translation Works

This video translation builds on Microsoft's Copilot+ PCs announcement, which offer system-wide live captioning and audio translation across apps and platforms, thanks to AI models.

Edge's translation works a bit differently, using generative AI models trained on massive language datasets. But the goal is the same - breaking language barriers to make multimedia accessible to all.

How the AI Translation Works

It'll even work outside of Windows! Initially supporting translation between Spanish English, and English to German, Hindi, Italian, Russian, and Spanish on platforms like YouTube, LinkedIn, Reuters, and CNBC News. Microsoft plans to expand language support as the AI improves.

Enhanced Security for Enterprise Users

But that's not all - Microsoft Edge for Business users with Entra ID accounts will get a security boost too.

IT admins can now implement policies preventing screenshots on sensitive pages, stopping confidential info from being captured. They can also use Edge's management service to monitor update status across devices, ensuring everyone runs the latest, secure browser version.

These added security layers protect enterprise data and mitigate risks from outdated software - vital for cybersecurity.

When Can You Use AI Video Translation?

There's no firm release date yet for when this AI translation rolls out to Edge users. But there's a good chance we'll see it alongside Windows 11 24H2 later this year, continuing Microsoft's AI product integration efforts.

Keep an eye out for updates! We can hardly wait to see the possibilities this unlocks for consuming global multimedia content without language barriers. Exciting times as AI enhances accessibility and communication.
