Google Requires Rigorous App Testing Before Play Store Release

Google has implemented new guidelines requiring developers launching new applications on the Google Play Store to rigorously test their apps before making them available to the hundreds of millions of global users. The updated policies aim to ensure all Apps meets high standards for quality, functionality, and user experience.

Specifically, the new rules mandate that developers conduct application tests using a minimum of 20 test users over a period of at least two weeks. This extended testing phase is intended to provide developers sufficient time to uncover and address major bugs or usability issues through real-world usage simulations.

By testing with a large group of individuals for a prolonged duration, developers have a better opportunity to learn how actual consumers interact with the apps in everyday environments. They can observe where apps may crash, perform slowly, or be otherwise confusing - then take the time needed to fix bugs.

Google's internal data shows apps that undergo comprehensive consumer tests leveraging their developer testing tools tend to see much higher installation rates once launched - up to three times greater on average. These thoroughly tested apps also tend to benefit from improved user engagement over time as initial technical issues have already been identified and addressed during prerelease evaluations.

The stricter prerequisites are part of Google's ongoing initiative to consistently elevate the level of quality across applications accessible via the Android ecosystem. By confirming new titles launch in a polished and stable state, it enhances satisfaction for users and fosters healthier marketplaces. It also safeguards the credibility of the Google Play Store brand as a destination consumers can depend on for finding reliable, safe application.

Going forward, all app developers debuting app in the store will need to thoughtfully plan and execute consumer tests to gain certification for commercial release. While it necessitates more pre-launch effort, the testing process stands to strengthen the final product and maximize chances of long term success on the competitive Android marketplace. The goals are to deliver continuously improving mobile experiences to billions of global users.
