Instagram head Adam Mosseri discussed Meta's strategic roadmap for the Threads app. In response to inquiries about Threads' user traction over the past year, Mosseri elaborated on Meta's goal of transforming the platform into a broader public communication network beyond a standalone mobile app.
Currently, Mosseri acknowledged Threads faces stiff competition from established rivals in the social media space like X. However, he expressed optimism about Threads' long-term growth potential to scale its userbase and outpace competitors through product innovation.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had previously revealed Threads' monthly active user base was still under 100 million.
To continuously optimize the user experience, Mosseri and his engineering team roll out weekly Threads app updates. Recent feature additions like polls, GIF stickers, and content editing tools seek to enrich in-app interactions.
Substantial development efforts are also underway to enhance the mobile app UX/UI for both Android and iOS users. In parallel, Threads' web client remains a work-in-progress to expand cross-platform accessibility.
Mosseri also hinted at integrations between Threads and Instagram backend systems to foster interoperability between Meta's social media properties.
Lastly, Threads' upcoming API launch will open the door for third-party developer collaborations and new use cases leveraging the platform's infrastructural capabilities. However, Mosseri did note concerns over media outlets potentially stunting grassroots content creation.
